The Path to Healing and Renewal

Welcome to Tattoo Aftercare. The most important tattoo healing period would usually last for 2 weeks. I offer two healing methods for your tattoo, each suits different needs and preferences. Learn more about each healing method and find the one that resonates best with your journey.

Natural Dry Healing

Dry healing is a natural and minimalistic approach to tattoo care, but it requires responsibility and consistency on your part to ensure the best healing outcome. With dry healing, the focus is on allowing your tattoo to breathe and heal naturally while keeping it clean and nourished.

This method is ideal for those who desire a more natural approach and a deeper connection to the healing process of their tattoo, embracing the journey of self-care and integration.

    1. Shower Upon Returning Home: Gently cleanse your tattoo with lukewarm water and your hands (no washcloth). Pat dry with a clean towel—don’t rub.

    2. Let It Breathe: Leave the tattoo uncovered for the rest of the day and night. Don’t apply anything.

    3. Clean Bedding: Ensure your sheets and pillowcases are clean to avoid bacteria. Avoid direct fabric contact with the tattoo.

    • Clean Twice a Day: Wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Gently pat dry with a clean towel.

    • Moisturise Sparingly: Apply a thin layer of the provided tattoo balm once or twice daily.

    • Avoid Water Exposure:

      • No swimming (pools, oceans, lakes).

      • Keep showers short and avoid direct water pressure on the tattoo.

    • No Sweating: Avoid intense exercise, saunas, or hot yoga to prevent irritation.

    • Protect from Friction:

      • Wear loose, breathable clothing.

      • Avoid tight or rough fabrics that rub against the tattoo.

    • Don’t Scratch or Pick: Itching and peeling are normal—tap the tattoo if it itches.

    • No Sun Exposure: Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight, and cover it if outdoors. Don’t use sunscreen yet.

    • If redness, swelling, or unusual discharge occur, clean the tattoo and monitor it closely.

    • Drink plenty of water and nourish your body to support healing.

Healing with Second Skin

Second Skin is a transparent, adhesive bandage applied to a fresh tattoo to protect it during the early healing phase. By using Second Skin for the first few days, your tattoo stays moisturised and shielded from external elements, helping it heal efficiently.

Blood plasma, the fluid released from your skin after tattooing, plays a crucial role in healing by delivering essential nutrients and growth factors. The Second Skin helps retain this plasma on the surface, promoting faster skin regeneration.

This method is ideal for those who prefer a hands-off, convenient healing process and desire quicker recovery with minimal care.

  • Keep the Second Skin On

    1. Leave the Second Skin On: After your tattoo session, keep the second skin on for 3-4 days. This allows the tattoo to heal with minimal irritation and protects it from external elements.

      • If you feel discomfort, irritation, or simply don’t like the second skin, it’s okay to remove it earlier (within 24-48 hours), but leaving it on for at least 2-3 days is ideal for healing.

    2. First Removal (Optional): After 3-4 days, gently peel off the second skin in the shower or under lukewarm water.

    3. If you prefer to remove it earlier, do so carefully.

    4. Avoid Swimming, minimise sweating and avoid direct sun exposure during time.

  • Clean & Moisturize

    1. Clean the Tattoo: After removing the second skin, wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Gently pat dry with a clean towel (don’t rub).

    2. Apply Balm: After cleaning, apply a thin layer of the provided tattoo balm or a fragrance-free moisturizer to keep it moisturized.

    1. Keep the Tattoo Clean: Continue washing your tattoo at least once a day with mild natural soap and lukewarm water. Apply a light layer of balm after each wash.

    2. Avoid Friction: Wear loose clothing to avoid irritating the tattoo.

    3. Avoid Swimming & Sun Exposure: No swimming, soaking, or direct sun exposure until the tattoo is fully healed.
